Hello! I’m Jess — the artist behind Petal & Lark Watercolor Co.
I create watercolor art inspired by the natural world. Influenced by stained glass, my work focuses on shape, color, and texture, with the aim of creating art that feels fresh, playful, and timeless. And to state the obvious — I love color!
The name Petal & Lark reflects the heart of my work, highlighting two of my primary subjects: botany and animals. I also love the word lark for its secondary meaning — a playful adventure — which perfectly captures how I approach my art.
I hold a BA in Art Education and have always loved teaching. In fact, it was a watercolor lesson that inspired my own artistic style. Through that process, I began to see the world differently — noticing how nature could be broken into shapes, colors, and patterns, and imagining how each piece might be painted. That spark became the foundation of my work, and four years later, Petal & Lark was born.
My art is also deeply influenced by the places that shaped me — growing up by the beach in Cape May, New Jersey, and taking yearly trips out west, where mountains, wide skies, and open landscapes left a lasting impression. Both environments continue to show up in my work today.
I currently live in Maryland with my husband, kids, and dog.
